Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu stated that 30 electric buses manufactured by Taiwan's Ching Yung Motor Co. have officially been shipped today to Paraguay, a diplomatic ally, showcasing Taiwan's industrial technology and manufacturing advantages. This is a practical implementation of the "Honor Your Country Project" and an export of Taiwan's smart zero-emission technologies abroad.
Minister Wu mentioned on his Facebook today that, in response to the global trend of net-zero carbon emissions, Taiwan, with its globally leading industrial technology and manufacturing advantages, previously formed a "National Electric Bus Team" during his tenure as Minister of Transportation. This team helped promote demonstration projects for electric buses, enhancing Taiwan's electric bus industry’s design and manufacturing capabilities. This initiative not only meets domestic needs but also aims to expand exports worldwide, creating a new "Taiwan No.1."
Wu also mentioned that he personally visited the Port of Taipei this morning to witness the shipment of 30 electric buses manufactured by Ching Yung Motor Co. These buses are now on their way to Paraguay, fulfilling the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ "Honor Your Country Project" and aligning with President Lai Ching-te's vision of making Taiwan a "Sun Never Sets Economy."
He explained that Paraguay is a brotherly ally of Taiwan. Paraguayan President Santiago Peña has introduced a "Pilot Electric Bus Program" to improve the country's public transportation system. Peña, recognizing Taiwan's technological strength, extended an invitation to Taiwan’s excellent manufacturers to participate. This will bring Taiwan's high-quality electric buses to the South American market and export Taiwan's smart zero-emission technology abroad.
Wu further pointed out that electric buses are not just transportation tools, but also integrate smart transportation systems, the Internet of Vehicles, big data, and AI technologies, providing numerous innovative applications. These are crucial for building smart cities and are key areas Taiwan’s industries should focus on, especially under the trends of "digital" and "net-zero" transformation.
As the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wu emphasized his role in witnessing the growth and international expansion of Taiwan’s electric bus industry. This is also part of the Ministry's "Honor Your Country Project." Looking ahead, the Ministry will revitalize the "Taiwan-Paraguay Industrial Zone" and upgrade it into a "Smart Technology Park." This initiative will bring investment and job opportunities to Paraguay, turning it into a vital base for Taiwanese businesses entering the South American "Mercosur" market, fostering mutual prosperity between Taiwan and Paraguay.
