Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu attended the "Electric Bus Pilot Program" shipment ceremony this morning (7th) at the Port of Taipei, witnessing the official shipment of 30 electric buses manufactured by Taiwan’s Ching Yung Motor Co. to Paraguay, a diplomatic ally. This demonstrates Taiwan's industrial technology and manufacturing strengths, while also implementing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ "Honor Your Country Project." Wu stated that in the future, the "Taiwan-Paraguay Industrial Zone" will be revitalized and upgraded into a "Smart Technology Park," fostering mutual prosperity between Taiwan and Paraguay and further realizing President Lai Ching-te's vision of a "Sun Never Sets Economy."

Last night, Wu returned to Taiwan after accompanying President Lai Ching-te on a 7-day, 6-night diplomatic mission titled "Prosperous South Islands, Smart and Sustainable." This morning, he was invited to attend the electric bus shipment event to Paraguay. Wu also shared his joy on social media, writing, "Although it was drizzling at the Port of Taipei, the Chairman of Ching Yung Motor, Wu Ding-fa, Ambassador of Paraguay to Taiwan, Carlos José Fleitas, and I were all incredibly happy to see the electric buses being shipped." These buses will be transported by sea and land, with an expected arrival in Paraguay by February 2025.

Wu mentioned that Paraguay is a "brotherly country" to Taiwan. To improve its public transportation system, Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña introduced the "Electric Bus Pilot Program" and highly valued Taiwan's technological strength. He invited Taiwanese manufacturers to cooperate, allowing Taiwan’s high-quality electric buses to enter the South American market and export Taiwan’s smart zero-emission technology abroad.

In response to the global trend of net-zero carbon emissions, and with Taiwan’s leading industrial technology and manufacturing advantages, Wu, during his time as Minister of Transportation, formed the "National Electric Bus Team" to promote demonstration operations. This helped improve Taiwan’s electric bus industry’s design and manufacturing capabilities, not only for domestic use but also for global export, creating a "New Taiwan No.1."

Wu emphasized that electric buses are not just a mode of transportation but also integrate smart transportation systems, the Internet of Vehicles, big data, and AI technologies, providing numerous innovative services. These are vital foundations for building smart cities and should not be overlooked in Taiwan’s industries under the "digital" and "net-zero" transformation trends.

Wu expressed his delight in witnessing the growth and international expansion of Taiwan’s electric bus industry, which has now become part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' "Honor Your Country Project." In the future, Taiwan will also revitalize the "Taiwan-Paraguay Industrial Zone," upgrading it into a "Smart Technology Park," bringing investment and job opportunities to Paraguay, and positioning Paraguay as an important base for Taiwanese businesses entering the South American "MERCOSUR" market, fostering mutual prosperity between Taiwan and Paraguay.
