Cheng Yun Automotive, part of Taiwan's national electric bus team, is showcasing its 12-meter low-floor electric city bus, long-distance intercity fast-charging electric bus, and high-power self-developed motor at the 4th Taiwan Climate Action Expo (TWCAE 4), held from October 18–20 at the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung. The company plans to start mass production of the long-distance intercity fast-charging electric bus in Q1 2025.

By participating in the expo, Cheng Yun emphasizes its commitment to the low-carbon sustainable development theme, promoting Taiwan’s smart, net-zero transportation transformation and aligning with global sustainability trends. The company is focused on green technology innovation and creating intelligent transportation solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Cheng Yun is displaying its 12-meter two-door low-floor city electric bus and the long-distance intercity fast-charging electric bus, designed to meet the needs of cross-county commuter services and national highway passenger transport. The company also highlights its self-designed and manufactured central direct-drive motor, which features 450kW peak power, 4,500N-m peak torque, and 98% peak efficiency. The motor operates without a gearbox, aligning with the highest global standards while ensuring comfort, safety, and stability.

Chairman Wu Ding-Fa of Cheng Yun Automotive stressed the company's core values of safety, economy, and environmental sustainability. He mentioned that the LTO battery used in the company’s electric buses has a zero-record explosion history, can charge from 20% to 80% in just 15 minutes, and has a battery cycle life of over 20,000 cycles.

Additionally, Wu explained that the battery waste is 1/27th of other types of lithium batteries, and while the battery capacity is only 1/3 that of other types, its range is three times greater, and its lifetime is also three times longer. This technology offers excellent fast-charging economic benefits—six buses can use a single charging station, and there is no need to change existing parking space layouts. The daily range is also unrestricted.

Cheng Yun notes that the Ministry of Transportation has set a target for full electrification of large buses by 2030, and as of 2024, the company has already deployed 365 electric buses across Taipei, New Taipei, Yilan, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Changhua, Chiayi, and Kaohsiung, covering the entire island.
