Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung attended the launch ceremony of the "Electric Bus Pilot Program" at Taipei Port this morning (7th), witnessing the official shipment of 30 electric buses manufactured by Taiwan’s CMC Motor. These buses are being transported to Paraguay, Taiwan’s diplomatic ally, showcasing Taiwan’s industrial technology and manufacturing strengths while also fulfilling the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ "Glorious Partner Initiative." Lin stated that future plans include revitalizing the "Taiwan-Paraguay Industrial Park" and upgrading it into a "Smart Technology Park," fostering mutual prosperity between the two nations and realizing President Lai Ching-te’s vision of an "Economy That Never Sets."
Last night, Lin had just returned to Taiwan after accompanying President Lai on a 7-day, 6-night visit under the "Prosperous South Pacific, Smart and Sustainable" initiative. This morning, he was invited to attend the electric bus shipment event to Paraguay. In a social media post, he happily shared, "Despite the light rain at Taipei Port, Chairman Wu Ting-fa of CMC Motor, Paraguayan Ambassador to Taiwan Carlos José Fleitas, and I were all filled with joy as we watched the electric buses being loaded onto the ship." The shipment, which involves both sea and land transportation, is expected to arrive in Paraguay in February 2025.
Lin emphasized that Paraguay is Taiwan’s "brotherly nation." To improve Paraguay’s public transportation system, President Santiago Peña has launched the "Electric Bus Pilot Program," placing great trust in Taiwan’s technological capabilities and extending a sincere invitation for Taiwanese companies to collaborate. This initiative not only facilitates Taiwan’s high-quality electric buses' entry into the South American market but also enables Taiwan to export its smart net-zero technologies worldwide.

In response to the global trend of achieving net-zero carbon emissions, and leveraging Taiwan's leading industrial technology and manufacturing advantages, former Minister of Transportation Lin Chia-lung established the Electric Bus National Team during his tenure to promote demonstration projects. These efforts aim to help Taiwan’s electric bus industry enhance its design and manufacturing capabilities, making the vehicles not only suitable for domestic use but also ready for global exports, creating a new Taiwan No.1.
Lin Chia-lung believes that electric buses are more than just transportation tools. They can integrate with smart transportation systems, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) networks, big data, and AI technologies, providing a wide range of innovative services. Electric buses are not only an essential foundation for building smart cities, but also a crucial sector for Taiwan’s industry to focus on as it navigates the dual transformation of digitalization and net-zero.
Lin emphasized that he is thrilled to witness the growth and expansion of Taiwan's electric bus industry, which is now entering international markets and becoming part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ “Rongbang Program.” In the future, Taiwan will also revitalize the Tai-Ba Industrial Park, upgrading it into a Smart Technology Park. This initiative will bring investment and job opportunities to Paraguay, helping establish Paraguay as an important gateway for Taiwanese businesses to enter MERCOSUR (Southern Common Market) in South America, thereby fostering mutual benefits and prosperity for both Taiwan and Paraguay.
